"A Whole Civilization Will Die Tonight": Trump Threatens to Destroy Iran as Deadline Passes

Trump posted: "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will." His fifth Strait of Hormuz deadline. The IEA called the crisis worse than 1973, 1979, and 2002 combined.

On April 7, 2026, as his latest Strait of Hormuz deadline approached, Trump posted on Truth Social:

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will."

The President of the United States threatened to destroy an entire civilization of 88 million people. Not a military target. Not a strategic objective. A civilization.

This is his fifth Strait of Hormuz deadline:

  • March 21: 48-hour deadline — passed, no action
  • March 23: 5-day deadline — passed, $580M in suspicious trading
  • March 28: deadline passed, no action
  • April 5 (Easter): "Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards — Praise be to Allah" — extended to Tuesday
  • April 7: "A whole civilization will die tonight"

The escalation in rhetoric has gone from demanding the strait be opened, to threatening power plants, to calling Iranians "animals," to now threatening to end their civilization entirely. Each deadline passes. Each new one is more extreme. Iran has not flinched.

The head of the International Energy Agency said the current oil crisis is "more serious than the ones in 1973, 1979, and 2002 together" — the worst energy crisis in modern history, caused entirely by a war Trump started during peace negotiations.

In the same post, Trump left himself an off-ramp: "maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen." The pattern: threaten annihilation, leave a door open, claim credit if anything happens, blame others if nothing does.

Meanwhile, U.S. forces struck Kharg Island — Iran's main oil export terminal handling 90% of its crude. The war Trump said was "nearing completion" six days ago is escalating, not ending.

Update: Hours after threatening to end an entire civilization, Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire. No civilization was terminated. The fifth deadline, like the previous four, ended not with the promised annihilation but with a negotiation — the thing that was available before the war started.
