Another Midnight Meltdown: Trump Threatens Iran Hours After Backing Down on His Own Deadline
One day after agreeing to a ceasefire (and one day after threatening to end "a whole civilization"), Trump posted a midnight rant demanding all U.S. forces stay in the region until a "REAL AGREEMENT" is reached. The ceasefire Israel already broke.

Just before midnight on April 9, 2026 — one day after backing down on his deadline to obliterate Iran, one day after a ceasefire was agreed, and hours after Israel shattered that ceasefire by killing 254 people in Lebanon — Trump posted another late-night rant on Truth Social.
"All U.S. Ships, Aircraft, and Military Personnel, with additional Ammunition, Weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already substantially degraded Enemy, will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until such time as the REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with."
The emphasis on "REAL AGREEMENT" — in caps — implicitly acknowledged that the ceasefire he announced two days earlier was not one. The deal he celebrated as a breakthrough is already being walked back by his own rhetoric.
The pattern is now unmistakable:
- April 5 (Easter): "Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards — Praise be to Allah"
- April 6: "They are animals" — calls Iranians animals to justify bombing civilian infrastructure
- April 7 (morning): "A whole civilization will die tonight"
- April 7 (evening): Agrees to a two-week ceasefire. Declares victory.
- April 8: Israel kills 254 in Lebanon. Iran suspends Hormuz deal.
- April 9 (midnight): Threatens "lethal prosecution and destruction" again
Five days. Threatened genocide. Backed down. Ceasefire agreed. Ceasefire broken by ally. Threatened again. All from a 79-year-old posting on social media between midnight and 1 AM.
The troops he's ordering to "remain in place" are the same ones whose commander-in-chief is "bored" with the war, gets 2-minute briefings of "stuff blowing up," and whose Defense Secretary was accused of lying to him about how the war is going. They deserve better than a midnight social media rant from a president who can't decide whether to end the war or threaten to destroy a civilization.
