Vought Diverted $15M in Humanitarian Aid for Personal Security Detail

OMB Director Russ Vought — who architected the gutting of USAID — was found using $15 million in USAID humanitarian aid funds to pay for his personal security detail of 12+ U.S. Marshals.

OMB Director Russ Vought — who helped architect the gutting of USAID, eliminating 83% of its programs and an estimated 3 million lives per year in preventable deaths — was found diverting USAID operating funds to pay for his personal security.

The arrangement involved:

  • An initial agreement in September 2025 for $1.6 million in USAID funds to cover Vought's security through November
  • An additional $13.5 million in USAID funds budgeted for his security through the end of 2026
  • Total: approximately $15 million diverted from humanitarian aid to personal protection
  • The detail consisted of over a dozen U.S. Marshals

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi demanded answers, warning the reallocation of humanitarian aid funding for domestic security purposes "undermines congressional intent and erodes public trust."

The man who destroyed America's foreign aid agency — cutting off lifesaving care to millions worldwide — then raided its budget for his own personal security detail. The irony was lost on no one.
