"Wind Turbines Cause Cancer"

Trump claimed noise from wind turbines causes cancer. There is zero scientific evidence for this. Even Republican senators from wind-producing states called it "idiotic" and "ridiculous."

On April 2, 2019, during a speech to the National Republican Congressional Committee, Trump claimed that noise from wind turbines causes cancer and that turbines decrease nearby property values by 75%.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence linking wind turbine noise to cancer. The American Cancer Society stated they were "unaware of any credible evidence" supporting this claim. No medical or scientific organization has ever supported it.

The claim was so absurd that even Republican senators from wind-producing states publicly rebuked it:

  • Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) called it "idiotic"
  • Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) called it "ridiculous"

Trump had a long-running personal vendetta against wind turbines dating back to a years-long legal battle over a wind farm near his Scottish golf course. His opposition to wind energy appeared rooted not in science or policy but in a personal grudge — which he attempted to dress up with fabricated health claims.
